Morocco Vaccinates 40% of Prison Population Against COVID-19

The national Covid-19 vaccination campaign, launched in Morocco at the end of January, is continuing and is slowly but surely reaching all segments of society. Among the people currently being taken into account are incarcerated persons, 40% of whom have been vaccinated.
Following the launch of the vaccination process at the "Arjat 1" prison on the outskirts of the capital, Rabat, Abdallah Tawfik, head of the health service of the Moroccan General Delegation of Prison Administration, indicated that "the continuation of the vaccination campaign inside the prisons is part of the national vaccination process." Thus, out of 80,000 inmates in Morocco, "40% of prisoners have benefited from the anti-Covid vaccines," since March 2, Tawfik said, stressing that "all employees of the prison administration have been vaccinated," or 10,200 employees in Moroccan prisons.
In addition, a total of 13.5 million doses of the Chinese "Sinopharm" and British "AstraZeneca" anti-Covid vaccines have been delivered to Morocco since last January. As part of the "Covax" mechanism, 950,000 doses, including 650,000 expected to be delivered to Morocco in the coming weeks, according to an official from the Moroccan Ministry of Health to the Anadolu Agency. It should be noted that since the beginning of the pandemic until Tuesday evening, a total of 517,423 people have been infected with the virus in Morocco, with 9,129 deaths and 505,668 recoveries, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
It should be noted that COVAX represents a mechanism established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure the equitable distribution of anti-Covid vaccines and make them available to low- and middle-income countries so that they can also fight the virus.
