Morocco’s PM Urges Ministers to Cut Spending in 2023 Budget Proposal

The head of the Moroccan government, Aziz Akhannouch, has asked ministers to reduce the operating expenses of their departments and make savings on their travel (by plane and official cars).
In a circular addressed to the ministers as part of the preparation of the 2023 finance bill, Aziz Akhannouch has called on the ministers to rationalize the expenses of their respective departments, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The note recommends that ministers limit their budget proposals to the necessary needs to ensure the continuation or implementation of the ongoing projects and reforms and a better quality of public service to citizens. It also emphasizes the need to optimize the use of available human resources and suggests their balanced distribution at the central and regional levels.
The document also urges ministers to reduce travel expenses within and outside the country and to avoid organizing receptions, conferences, seminars and studies. Similarly, it calls for a rationalization of the use of water and electricity, as well as a reduction in expenses related to the purchase of cars and the construction and equipment of administrative offices.
