Morocco Urged to Prioritize Digital Strategy for National Development

The general report of the Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD) officially handed over to King Mohammed VI on May 25 states that digital technology is the first of the five pillars identified by the document to drive development.
Digital technology is the "true lever of change and development" for Morocco, ahead of four other no less important pillars, the report of the special commission chaired by Chakib Benmoussa noted, urging the leaders to pay particular attention to digital technology at the highest level.
According to information from La Vie Eco, the CSMD has recommended that Morocco adopt a digital strategy that must be "a catalyst for structural and high-impact transformations". This, the same source points out, involves the deployment of high-speed and very high-speed fixed and mobile digital infrastructures and their extension across the entire territory.
"This is not to the displeasure of the community of advocates for the cause of digital transformation in the service of human development, who welcomed the CSMD report with great satisfaction," observes La Vie Eco in its weekly issue.
The 35 members of the special commission also stressed that the success of the digital transformation project depends essentially on the technical and institutional legitimacy of the body that will lead this vast project. In this configuration, the Digital Development Agency (ADD) should ensure the implementation of the projects, i.e. a simple role of execution.
To this end, the Commission is making an urgent call for the extension of high and very high-speed fixed and mobile broadband across the entire territory, in order to reduce the digital divide revealed by the health crisis. "The connection of all public facilities throughout the territory, in hospitals and schools, must be ensured and functional, including in rural areas," the Benmoussa Commission concludes.
