Morocco Urged to Prioritize COVID-19 Vaccines for Mentally Disabled, Caregivers

Despite their fragile health and vulnerability, people with mental disabilities are not among the priority groups to be vaccinated as part of the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Morocco. The association responsible for defending their rights is calling on the government to correct this.
The executive office of the National Union of Associations Working in the Field of Mental Disability in Morocco (UNAHM) has launched an appeal to the Head of Government, Saad Dine El Otmani, to demand respect for the "citizen’s right" to anti-covid vaccination for these people, reports Hespress.
Through the voice of its vice-president, Sabah Zemmama, UNAHM has requested that "all people with mental disabilities, regardless of age and sex, as well as their educators, caregivers and families, be vaccinated as a priority against the coronavirus". "People with disabilities, regardless of their disability, are very vulnerable. They have fragile health, comorbidities, including heart diseases, respiratory problems, they have difficulty respecting barrier gestures due to a small or large deficiency..." she explained.
For all these reasons, UNAHM wishes that the Ministry of Health include people with mental disabilities on the list of priority groups to be vaccinated, in accordance with the Constitution, laws and international conventions on the rights of persons with disabilities.
