Morocco Upgrades Air Traffic Control with Advanced ManagAir System to Boost Efficiency and Cut Emissions

The National Airports Office (ONDA) has equipped itself with ManagAir, a state-of-the-art air traffic management system implemented by Indra, in order to position itself as a leader in the region in terms of air navigation.
With Indra’s ManagAir system, ONDA will be able to streamline and increase the capacity of Moroccan air traffic and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, a priority for the kingdom. The new system will also ensure Morocco’s coordination with the other AEFMP member states, namely Algeria, Spain, France and Portugal, and guarantee the continuity of the provision of air navigation services in the region, reports Actualidad Aeroespacial.
"Our company will use the most modern air traffic control system in the world. With ManagAir, we are also ready to apply the objectives of the European Single Sky of the European Commission in terms of technical competence of air navigation service providers. We have taken the first step in the process of increasing the potential of the new system and the experience of its users," explained Hicham Abdelaziz Moumni, ONDA’s director.
Federico Rueda, director of Indra’s ATM activity, recalls the characteristics of the ManagAir system now available to ONDA. "It is the world’s first en-route and approach air traffic control service solution, which will bring significant improvements to air traffic management: an improved user interface, easy, secure and safe access, and a higher level of automation," he details.
The migration to the new system will take place in two stages, with the collaboration of Eurocontrol, the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation, and under the supervision of the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority, which will ensure the smooth running of the migration process, following the standards and regulations in force. The system is recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for air traffic management and has already been adopted by several countries including India, Vietnam and China.
