Morocco Updates Terrorist Watch List, Including Al-Qaeda and ISIS Leaders

Morocco has published its updated list of persons and entities classified as terrorists, updated on April 7 and published in the Official Bulletin of May 5, 2022. A list established by the National Committee responsible for the implementation of UN Security Council sanctions related to terrorism and the proliferation of weapons and their financing.
The people on this list are:
• Mohamed Abattay, alias Abou Mohammad Al Maghribi, who has held several positions of responsibility within Al Qaeda, including in Iran;
• Youssef Lamlaoui alias Khalid or Abou Al Baraâ, a leader of the Tahrir Al-Sham movement who left for Syria in 2013
• M’Hammed El Mrabat alias Essouiri, one of the leaders of ISIS in northern Mali.
These last two have been prosecuted for acts of terrorism since 2006.
Harakat Al-Sham is one of the terrorist organizations classified on the list. It is an organization founded by a Moroccan in 2013. It is suspected of having carried out several terrorist attacks in Syria. In 2016, the UN Security Council placed it on the list of terrorist entities.
