Morocco to Update COVID-19 Easing Measures Biweekly, PM El Otmani Says

The easing measures adopted will be updated every two weeks, the Head of Government, Saad Dine El Otmani, said on Thursday, stressing the need to adopt a gradual and assured easing process.
The update will be made based on the evolution of the national and international epidemiological situation, the classification of the Ministry of Health, the official data of the World Health Organization as well as the health reports communicated by the countries concerned, the measures will be updated, said the head of the executive, during the council of government.
It is necessary, explains El Otmani, to proceed in this way in order to allow the country to avoid any uncalculated decision that could exacerbate the situation and force the government to backtrack on certain easing measures.
To this end, the easing must take into account the dangers related to the pandemic, he argued before addressing the issue of the resumption, as of June 15, 2021, of flights to and from Morocco, as part of exceptional authorizations. According to him, this measure aims to revive the tourism professions and other economic sectors, but could also facilitate the mobility of Moroccans stranded abroad and wishing to return home.
On this subject, the head of the executive praised the efforts of the Ministries of Health, Foreign Affairs and the Interior who have worked rigorously and in synergy to define the stages of this easing while protecting the health and safety of citizens.
For him, the easing of measures requires the mobilization of air and sea resources and the creation of the conditions for good control. "The authorities concerned are taking the necessary measures to protect our country and our citizens", said Saad Dine El Otmani, assuring that Morocco is aware of the challenges posed by the choices made.
