Morocco Unveils 30-Year Green Economy Plan to Combat Climate Change

For the next 30 years, Morocco wants to focus on the green economy to make its economy more competitive. A roadmap has been presented to the United Nations in this regard.
Thus, Morocco will devote a share of renewable energies of 70% by 2040 and 80% by 2050 in the electricity mix, both in energy and in capacity, which is feasible with current technologies and cost prospects. To this end, the experts have outlined the main guidelines for the decarbonization of industry, highlighting the importance of levers such as R&D and the adoption of a fiscal framework linked to the green transition of industry.
According to the document, this vision aims to accelerate, first, the strong development of renewable energies with a view to decarbonized electricity, from an indicative target of 80% by 2050.
Then, to increase the electrification of uses in the industry, building and transport sectors while assessing the potential for the development of green hydrogen to decarbonize industry and road freight.
Then, to generalize energy efficiency and efficient use of natural resources in all sectors, while developing construction and equipment quality standards and infrastructure, etc.
