Morocco Unveils Urgent Support Plan for Tourism Sector Recovery

The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatima-Zahra Ammor, announced on Wednesday the imminent implementation of a vast support plan for tourism operators.
During a meeting with the president and representatives of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), the minister reiterated the commitment of her department and the government to the implementation of urgent and structuring measures to revive the tourism sector.
The session, which was also attended by the general managers of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and the Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company (SMIT), aims to study the 10 proposals of the CNT to support the sector, severely affected by the health crisis and shaken by the recent closure of borders, in order to initiate its recovery under the best conditions.

"After more than 21 months of health crisis, the evolution of the context requires a new series of support measures for employees and operators," said Fatima-Zahra Ammor. The main measures intended to accelerate the recovery are related to the extension of the lump-sum allowance of 2,000 dirhams (paid for 4 months from September to December 2021), the review of payment schedules for social security contributions, the implementation of new banking mechanisms and the resumption of flights.
At the end of the meeting, a technical committee was set up to carry out the implementation of the support measures as soon as possible.
