Morocco Unveils Rescue Plan for Tourism Sector Amid Coronavirus Crisis

In an effort to strengthen the tourism sector, which has been struggling for several weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic, the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT) proposed a series of measures on Monday in Rabat. The aim for the CNT is to help the companies in the sector overcome the economic impact of the virus.
Among the measures proposed to support the sector are the deferral and cancellation of social security contributions (CNSS/CIMR) and tax rebates (IR, IS, VAT) for the entire period of the current health crisis. There is also the deferral of bank maturities for 12 months, the maintenance of credit lines and the opening of borrowing lines for 12 months, with a reduction in the interest rate to 2%.
The president of the CNT, Abdellatif Kabbaj, also mentions the establishment of a Support Fund for tourism companies to deal with the consequences of the crisis and the implementation of a partial unemployment scheme.
The president of the CNT hopes that things will return to normal by then, otherwise "the tourism sector will lose 34 billion dirhams in terms of turnover by the end of the year".
