Morocco Unveils New Regulations for Electric Scooters and Tricycles to Enhance Road Safety

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, has initiated a draft decree to regulate the driving of tricycles and electric scooters.
The draft decree, transmitted to the General Secretariat of the Government, aims to impose new driving rules for tricycles and electric scooters, in application of the provisions of Law 52.05 on the Highway Code, reports Al Akhbar. The objective of the text is to guarantee road safety and simplify administrative procedures at the level of the services of the National Road Safety Agency (Narsa), it is specified.
The project clarifies the notions of "motorized personal mobility device" and "pedal-assisted bicycle". If one is a seatless device dedicated exclusively to the transport of one person and not to the transport of goods, and capable of reaching a speed greater than 60 km/h and less than 25 km/h, the other is a bicycle with at least two wheels and equipped with an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 250 watts that can reach a speed of 25 km/h.
The text requires owners of these devices to equip them with position lights, a white headlight and a rear light for safe driving day and night. The draft decree also sets the weight, dimensions and technical characteristics of vehicles dedicated to transport.
