Morocco Unveils Plan to Upgrade 25,000 Hotel Rooms Ahead of Major Sporting Events

Questioned by the Haraki group on the strengthening of hotel infrastructure, Fatima Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, unveiled an ambitious program aimed at accelerating the improvement of the hotel offer, before the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN Morocco 2025) and the 2030 World Cup.

Responding to questions from deputies Driss Sentissi and Adel Sebaï from the Haraki group, Fatima Zahra Ammor highlighted the actions taken by her department as part of the implementation of the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap and the preparations for major sporting events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup. According to her, her ministry encourages investment in tourism infrastructure to modernize and strengthen it. In this sense, her department has launched the "Cap Hospitality" program, aimed at accelerating the improvement of the hotel offer by renovating 25,000 rooms.

According to the explanations of the Moroccan official, this program works through the granting of loans whose interest is borne by the State, for the benefit of tourist accommodation establishments wishing to modernize their infrastructure. It covers investments ranging from three to one hundred million dirhams, with a repayment period of up to 12 years and a two-year payment deferral. In parallel, her department continues its efforts to strengthen and modernize the hotel offer in cooperation with the Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company (SMIT), in order to increase the demand for the tourism product. This dynamic will increase the number of tourists and attract more Moroccan and foreign investors.

Regarding the promotion of tourist destinations, Ammor said that the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has carried out large-scale promotional campaigns, including the relaunch of the "Morocco, Land of Lights" campaign in five international markets, as well as the doubling of the distribution of "Visit Morocco Originals" videos on ONMT’s digital platforms and the activation of advertising campaigns in the main international markets. Digital promotional campaigns continue, with participation in international tourism fairs, as well as the opening of new ONMT offices in several countries, accompanied by an intensive promotional policy worldwide, she added.
