Morocco Unveils Plan to Boost Food Supply and Lower Prices Amid Inflation Concerns

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, announced on Thursday, during a session with professionals in the agricultural sector, the implementation of a plan to ensure the availability of certain products on the market and to lower their prices.
The Moroccan government wants to straighten out the production chains of certain products such as milk, meat, olive oil and fruits and vegetables. This, in order to continue to supply the local market and to lower prices by playing on the balance between supply and demand. To this end, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, held a session on Thursday with professionals in the agricultural sector, reports Assabah.
On this occasion, the latter presented the priority measures to relaunch the sector and guarantee the supply of the local market, in a context of severe drought and in preparation for the launch of the 2024-2025 agricultural season. These measures notably concern the protection and reconstitution of the animal heritage and the strengthening of the resilience of the agricultural sector, informs the daily.
This meeting was an opportunity for the two parties to study the ways and means to relieve the professionals of the various agricultural sectors (olive oil, citrus fruits, date palms, legumes, early crops, sugar, rice, seeds and cereals) and to improve the harvests. The government has committed to strengthening its support for these professionals to enable them to effectively cope with the adverse effects of the drought.
The government will ensure the monitoring of the implementation of these urgent measures aimed at lowering product prices and relieving consumers whose purchasing power has been considerably weakened. For the record, the Executive, through the Agricultural Development Fund, will contribute 42 billion dirhams to the sector over the next ten years as part of the 19 program contracts signed in 2023.
