Morocco Unveils First Domestically-Developed EV Charging Station ’iSmart’

Named "iSmart", the first 100% Moroccan intelligent charging station for electric vehicles has been presented this Monday in Rabat. This innovation is the work of Moroccan engineers.
"iSmart" represents a new design of intelligent charging stations for electric vehicles for professional and domestic use. Thus, electricity is gaining considerable ground in the automotive sector, said Moulay Hafid Elalamy, adding that this intelligent station represents a very technological product in line with the needs of Moroccans, who have electric cars and who constantly need to recharge. He explained that thanks to the assiduous investment of Morocco, Moroccan engineers have managed to design high quality innovations.
The Director General of the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), Badr Ikken, for his part, indicated that this is the first electric vehicle charging station designed and manufactured in Morocco and which will be industrialized as early as 2022 with a production of 5,000 stations per year. The station has several advantages, including fast charging, 4G connectivity, a control and monitoring platform and an integrated projector. It can charge a small car in 30 minutes, he said in a press release.
This innovation was carried out by the Green Energy Park, a research platform created by IRESEN and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), at the request of automotive industry players and supported by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy and the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment. In addition, a production line for this new generation of intelligent stations will be erected in Benguerir in 2022, with the support of the Ministry of Industry.
In addition, a new fast charging station with a capacity ranging from 20 kW to 60 kW is under development for future commercialization, it is further specified.
