Morocco Unveils First Armored Vehicle Factory, Boosting Defense Independence

Rajnath Singh, the Indian Minister of Defense, has arrived in Morocco for, among other things, the inauguration ceremony of the first Moroccan factory dedicated to the manufacture of wheeled armored platforms, called Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM), in Berrechid.

Morocco is starting to produce WhAP 8x8 wheeled military armored vehicles, also known as Kestrel, in its first factory called Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM) located in Berrechid as of this Monday, September 22, the date of its inauguration, in the presence of Rajnath Singh, the Indian Minister of Defense. This factory should produce 100 vehicles per year, with a total of more than 400 units expected, of which 150 will be directly destined for the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). The first deliveries are expected within 18 months.

Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM) will generate 100 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs. Moroccan employees who have received specialized training in India will work in this factory. This initiative will allow Morocco to reduce its dependence on imports of military equipment and increase its industrial autonomy. For Sukaran Singh, CEO of Tata Advanced Systems, this contract is of major strategic importance for his group. "It not only lays the foundations for a defense ecosystem in Morocco, but also paves the way for a broader deployment in Africa," he added.

In addition to the inauguration ceremony of the factory, the signing of a cooperation agreement with Abdellatif Loudiyi, the Delegate Minister in charge of National Defense Administration, as well as a meeting with Ryad Mezzour, the Minister of Industry and Trade, are also on the agenda of the official visit of the Indian Minister to Morocco. This visit aims not only to consolidate the strategic partnership between India and Morocco, but also underscores the importance that the two countries attach to strengthening cooperation in the areas of defense, industry and trade.
