Morocco Unveils New Development Model to Diaspora in Paris Meeting

"The new development model of Morocco, unleashing energies" the general report of the CSMD. This is the theme of the presentation given by the Moroccan ambassador to France and president of the Special Commission on the New Development Model (CSMD), Chakib Benmoussa. The discussion meeting organized by the Council of Experts of Moroccans of the World (MDM) as well as several MDM associative structures, was held in Paris, at the Maison du Maroc.

In his presentation of the New Development Model, Chakib Benmoussa was supported by members of the commission, such as Rachid Benzine, Hamid Bouchikhi and Ahmed Bounfour. During his presentation, the president of the CSMD highlighted the richness and diversity of the profiles of the MDM, emphasizing their "extremely appreciable" economic and social contribution, in particular through their transfers which represent 7% of GDP.

He stressed that the challenge for the Morocco of tomorrow is to bring about a real break with the old development model that has shown its limits, but above all with the bad practices that still weigh down the country’s development. This is why the NMD, according to Chakib Benmoussa, promotes the values of openness and dialogue that characterize the Kingdom, in order to allow the Moroccan citizen to enjoy a renewed civic identity.

The report on the NMD is a 170-page document that highlights the enhancement of human capital and calls for the mobilization of all the country’s potential. The governance that is not always up to its role, the limits of the public sector and the slowness of the structural transformation of the economy have also been raised.

To this end, it is proposed to unleash private initiative and entrepreneurship, improve the competitiveness of the productive fabric, direct private sector investment, large groups and SMEs, towards promising and future sectors and towards the upgrading of production systems, and to enhance the social economy.

Taking the floor in turn, Hamid Bouchikhi indicated that the CSMD report marks the beginning of a mobilization for the much-needed development. And for him, putting the citizen at the center of the State’s interest is a good thing and will allow the objectives set to be achieved fairly quickly. Rachid Benzine, for his part, stressed that after the formulation of ideas and visions, it would be necessary to move to action. And this depends, according to him, on "a strong and strategic state" and "a strong and free civil society".
