Morocco Unveils New Development Model, Aims to Leverage Diaspora Expertise

The Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD) has just released the results of its analysis. In its conclusions, it recommends structural changes in the kingdom based on technical, human and financial capacities.
To initiate this new development model and support its realization, Morocco must implement five levers, namely digitalization, administrative reform, financing, the involvement of Moroccans abroad and the optimization of partnership links with foreign partners, the Commission instructed in its report, stressing the importance of integrating Moroccans living abroad into the plan and the need to strengthen the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME).
Furthermore, "renewed and adapted policies to the needs and expectations of this important segment of the Moroccan population and to the defense of their interests in their country of residence" must be established, reports L’Économiste. To benefit from the expertise of Moroccans abroad, a database will also need to be set up to allow national public and private institutions to contact these people, the commission added.
Moreover, Moroccans living abroad "could help raise capital, develop new partnerships or access skills or expertise lacking in Morocco, or promote Moroccan products and services". Thus, the government must put in place "financial products adapted to their investment objectives, particularly for the new generations".
Not to mention that it is essential to strengthen the cultural ties between Morocco and the new generations born in the host countries. In this sense, taking into account the place of the Jewish community, it is also necessary to protect its cemeteries, synagogues, museums, and others, the CSMD hammered.
