Morocco Unveils $12 Billion Water and Irrigation Plan Through 2027

King Mohammed VI presided, on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the Royal Palace in Marrakech, a working session devoted to the 2020-2027 National Priority Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation, estimated at 115 billion DH.
This meeting, attended by the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, ministers and senior officials of the Moroccan administration, aims to develop an integrated project of this Program, which covers all regions of the Kingdom, a royal communiqué specifies.
During this working session, the Ministers of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water; of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Forests, and of the Interior, presented reports on the various aspects of this Program, and particularly on certain axes.
Among these axes, we note the improvement of the water supply, in particular through the construction of dams; the management of demand and the valorization of water in the agricultural sector, the strengthening of the drinking water supply in rural areas; the reuse of treated wastewater for the irrigation of green spaces; communication and awareness-raising in order to strengthen the awareness of the importance of preserving water resources and rationalizing its use.
At the end of their presentations, King Mohammed VI gave instructions for the implementation of this Program, the total cost of which is estimated at 115 billion dirhams.
