Morocco Unveils Ambitious Plan to Become Top 10 Global Tourist Destination by 2026

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) plans to put a particular emphasis on its communication and promotion strategy, with the ambition of attracting nearly 4 million additional travelers. This announcement follows the exceptional results of 2022 and the first half of 2023, according to a press release from the Office, unveiled at the end of a Board of Directors meeting.

Eager to position Morocco among the ten most popular tourist destinations in the world, the ONMT has deployed an action plan that aims for an annual growth of 13% until 2026. The air sector remains at the heart of this strategy, with a significant increase in air capacity planned. The objective is ambitious: 8.2 million available seats, or 3.9 million potential additional travelers. Partnerships with various airlines will allow the opening of 33 new routes for the summer of 2023, connecting eight Moroccan destinations to nine European markets.

Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, recalled that the year 2022 will be marked by the resilience, recovery and renewed ambition of the Moroccan tourism sector. Thanks to an innovative and offensive strategy, Morocco has risen among the leading destinations, conveying a powerful, authentic experiential message in its values and contemporary in its creativity.

The ONMT, which has started the year on a positive note, is aligning with the Roadmap of the Ministry of Tourism, with the objective of attracting 17.5 million tourists by 2026. The "Morocco, Land of Light" campaign will be intensified, as will the Country brand, which will continue to be nourished by a bouquet of local and thematic destination brands. Domestic tourism remains a priority for the ONMT which, under the "Ntla9awfbladna" brand, aims to better promote Morocco’s assets to locals and Moroccans living abroad (MREs).
