Morocco Accelerates Highway Construction for 2030 World Cup and Economic Growth

Morocco is accelerating the construction of its highways to be ready for the 2030 FIFA World Cup and other major international events. This is the promise made by Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, during his appearance at the Council of Advisors this Tuesday.

Main objective: to connect the major cities of the country by modern highways. The Rabat-Casablanca highway, the centerpiece of the plan, will be completed by 2030, serving the future large stadium in Benslimane. Another major project: the Fez-Marrakech highway via Beni Mellal and Khénifra, which will open up several regions and connect these two economic heavyweights.

"This will be of great value to revitalize several provinces and will connect important capitals (Fez and Marrakech)," said Nizar Baraka.

These construction sites are part of an ambitious national plan for road infrastructure, developed in consultation with the regions, elected officials and the ministries concerned. The target is set: 3,000 km of highways by 2030.

"It is necessary to emphasize that we have developed the national plan for road infrastructure by 2040, which has been designed in a participatory manner with the regions, because we have come to the conviction that it is essential that this plan be defined with the participation of the stakeholders, the elected officials and the ministries concerned," explained the minister.

Morocco is pulling out all the stops to meet FIFA’s requirements and position itself as a choice destination for major international sporting and cultural events. The goal is clear: to be up to the task and leave a
