Morocco Unveils Africa’s Most Powerful Supercomputer at New Data Center

With new 100% Moroccan digital services, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is working to ensure the kingdom’s digital sovereignty. On Friday, it inaugurated its new Data Center housing the most powerful "Supercomputer" in Africa, the African Supercomputing Center.
This world-class facility located at the heart of the green city of Benguerir and covering an area of 2,000 m² ensures high security, maximum availability, great flexibility and optimal connectivity, the university details, stressing that this data center will expand scientific experimentation capabilities. In addition to the ideal framework offered to companies and public bodies to organize, process, store and store large amounts of data, this "Supercomputer" offers the possibility of analyzing large amounts of data and solving even the most complex calculations.
For UM6P and Morocco in general, the African Supercomputing Center, with a capacity of 3 million billion operations per second, increases the possibilities for scientific research and innovation, such as the genome of African plants to be protected, satellite data for better valuation and management of agricultural land, or meteorological data for more efficient integration of renewable energies into power grids.
This "Supercomputer" developed in partnership with the University of Cambridge ranks 98th among the most powerful supercomputers in the world. It positions Morocco in 1st place in Africa and 26th worldwide in terms of computing power. It is certified Tier III and Tier IV by the Uptime Institute.
