Morocco Unveils $3,000 Aid and Rehousing Plan for 50,000 Earthquake-Affected Homes

King Mohammed VI chaired a strategic meeting at the Royal Palace in Rabat on September 14, focused on activating an emergency plan related to the recent earthquake in Al Haouz.

This plan comes after several royal instructions issued on September 9, with a particular emphasis on the effectiveness and speed of intervention in favor of the victims.

The rehousing program presented during this meeting concerns approximately 50,000 damaged or collapsed homes in five affected provinces. In the forefront, emergency housing measures are being put in place, including weather-resistant structures. In addition, an emergency financial aid of 30,000 dirhams will be allocated to affected households.

The sovereign insisted on the importance of rapid and fair action, taking into account the specific needs of the populations concerned. The approach is not only reactive but also preventive, with immediate measures to rebuild damaged homes. A budget of 140,000 dirhams for completely destroyed homes and 80,000 dirhams for partial rehabilitation is also planned.

King Mohammed VI emphasized the need to respect local heritage and architecture in all reconstruction operations. He also reiterated his determination to respond with strength and determination to this crisis.

The financing of this ambitious program will come mainly from state and public funds, while remaining open to contributions from the private and associative sectors. The king has also expressed his thanks to the countries that would like to participate financially in this emergency action.

During this same meeting, particular attention was paid to the situation of orphaned children. The king called for their immediate care and the granting of the status of "ward of the nation". A draft law aimed at facilitating their adoption has also been initiated, thus confirming Morocco’s commitment to face the challenges with solidarity and resilience.
