Morocco Turns to Spain for High-Speed Rail Expansion Ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco wants to set up a major high-speed rail network before the 2030 World Cup and is counting on the collaboration of Spain to achieve this goal.

"Spain and Morocco will build the trains we will use during the World Cup. Yes, it is a call for tenders, but I am convinced that my country will act intelligently and do it with the Spaniards and not the Japanese," said Houda Benghazi, CEO of the Moroccan Family Business Institute, during the 26th National Congress of the Family Business.

The development of the Moroccan high-speed rail network is also of interest to France, which had already built the first high-speed line in Morocco seven years ago, recalls Huffpost. The kingdom plans to invest around 35 billion euros by 2040 to build 1,100 kilometers of high-speed lines. The realization of the project of the tunnel under the Strait, connecting Spain and Morocco, more precisely Casablanca and Madrid, should also be completed by 2030.

Morocco wants to improve its infrastructure before the 2030 World Cup it is organizing with Spain and Portugal, and encourages Spanish companies to participate in the tenders opened in this direction. Within the framework of their transport agreement, Morocco and Spain can work together for the development of the rail infrastructure, the operation and the traffic.
