Morocco Travel Allowance Family Benefits Guide

The travel allowance does not only concern the person requesting it. According to the Office of Exchange, the beneficiary’s rights can also be used to load an international payment card with the amounts granted to the spouse and children, within the authorized limits.

Families traveling abroad from Morocco can benefit from a useful but often overlooked rule. The allowance for personal travel, intended to cover expenses incurred outside the kingdom, can be mobilized for several members of the same household.

This allowance is used to pay travel-related expenses: transport tickets, accommodation fees, lodging or other personal expenses abroad. It can be provided in the form of banknotes, traveler’s checks, bank checks or loaded onto an international payment card.

A useful rule for family travel

The Office of Exchange clarifies that international payment cards can be loaded with the rights of the beneficiary, but also those of their children and spouse. However, this possibility remains regulated: it must respect the amounts set by regulations and be expressly requested on the occasion of each trip abroad.

In practice, a family preparing a trip outside Morocco can therefore organize part of its expenses in foreign currency via an international payment card, taking into account the rights granted to each of the beneficiaries concerned.

This rule can be particularly useful for families traveling together, especially when expenses are centralized on a single card or managed by a parent. It makes it possible to avoid multiplying separate procedures, while remaining within the framework provided by the Office of Exchange.

Ceilings and supporting documents to respect

The allowance for personal travel remains subject to ceilings. Its basic amount is set at 100,000 dirhams per person and can, under certain conditions, be increased by a supplement linked to income tax paid in Morocco. The total of the basic allowance and the supplementary allowance cannot exceed 500,000 dirhams per person per calendar year.

Before the allowance is issued, banks and exchange operators must request certain documents. For Moroccan individuals, these include a valid National Identity Card and a valid individual passport.

The request must therefore be prepared before departure, especially when it concerns several members of the same family. The Office of Exchange also regulates unused amounts: in case of trip cancellation or return to Morocco with unspent foreign currency, it must be sold on the foreign exchange market within 30 days.

The rule to remember is simple: the travel allowance can accompany family trips, but it must be requested in the prescribed manner, for each trip, and within the limits of the rights granted to each beneficiary.
