Morocco Train Fares Spike Amid Rising Inflation, Sparking Public Outcry

Already facing a general rise in prices, Moroccans now have to deal with an increase in train ticket prices. This decision by the National Railway Office (ONCF) has sparked the anger of users and some parliamentarians.
Fatima Tamni, deputy of the Democratic Left Federation, did not mince her words. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Transport and Logistics, she denounces a decision taken "without notice" and which "burdens the budget of travelers".
This increase in fares, which affects both high-speed trains and shuttles, comes in a context of high inflation. "Moroccans are suffering from successive increases in several basic products," recalls the deputy.
In addition to the impact on purchasing power, the quality of the services offered by the ONCF is also criticized. Frequent delays, poor condition of the trains... users feel that they are paying more for a deteriorating service.
Fatima Tamni is also surprised by the lack of communication from the ONCF. "No explanation has been provided to passengers," she laments, regretting that the office is not more transparent, whether on fare increases or the problems encountered.
