Morocco Traffic Accidents: 12 Killed, Nearly 2,000 Injured in One Week

During the week of February 21 to 27, 2022, 12 people died and 1,981 others were injured, including 73 seriously. These figures come from 1,487 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas.
In a press release, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicated that these accidents are mainly due to driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain a safe distance, changing direction without signaling, failure to stop, driving in the left lane, failure to comply with traffic lights, driving in the wrong direction, driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper overtaking.
Regarding the control and repression of traffic offenses, the security services recorded 38,648 tickets and issued 7,139 reports, already submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. The DGSN also noted that 31,509 transaction fines were collected.
According to the same source, the sums collected reached 6,595,200 dirhams, and 4,537 vehicles were impounded in the municipal pound. The DGSN press release also mentions the seizure of 7,139 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 190 vehicles.
