Morocco’s Traditional Hammam Owners Protest COVID-19 Restrictions, Demand Government Support

The National Federation of Associations of Owners and Managers of Traditional Hammams and Showers in Morocco is protesting against the new restrictive measures taken by the authorities against Covid-19 and deplores the impact on their activity.
They would be the poor children of the government, because since the arrival of the pandemic, the owners of public baths have not benefited from any type of support or accompaniment to overcome the crisis, although several other sectors, whose financial conditions were much better, were able to benefit from it.
Annoyed, the owners of public baths have taken the floor once again to, they say, denounce the neglect of the government and demand an intervention to save the "paralyzed" sector.
In a statement, the federation called on the government to review its decision as soon as possible with accompanying fiscal measures, as well as compensation for the losses resulting from the forced and abrupt closure of public baths.
It also explained that the closure that lasted several months has left considerable aftermath, the most important of which are the accumulation of losses, debts, if not outright bankruptcy.
