Morocco Tracks Social Media Users Urging Defiance of Ramadan Prayer Ban

Faced with multiple calls on social media to encourage Moroccans to defy the ban on Tarawih prayers during Ramadan, the brigades specialized in the fight against cybercrime within the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) are tracking down the authors.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) intends to restore order. It has mobilized the elements of the brigades specialized in the fight against cybercrime in the regions and at the national level so that they follow all the publications inciting the population to protest against the curfew as well as the ban on Tarawih prayers in mosques and in public space, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. Already, some authors of these publications are being tracked and followed. Investigations are underway to identify and track down others. According to the same source, these people are followers of the Al Adl Wal Ihssane movement and instrumentalize religion for political purposes.
These multiple calls launched on the networks follow the demonstrations in which dozens of young men and adolescents participated on April 15 last in Tangier, Safi and other cities of the kingdom to protest against the ban on travel from 8 p.m. as well as the Tarawih prayers. Result: dozens of people were arrested in Bani Makada, for violating the night curfew imposed to curb the spread of the coronavirus and its variants. Before these arrests, seven people had been arrested on the 1st day of Ramadan, after defying the ban and holding prayers in front of the closed mosque doors.
