Morocco tourism resilience summer 2026 French travelers
As summer 2026 approaches, the French tourism market is navigating turbulent waters. Faced with economic uncertainties, the French are prioritizing caution, but Morocco is surprisingly managing to consolidate its appeal compared to its neighbors.
In May, the overall volume of organized travel departures declined by 2%. Contrary to this gloomy trend, the Kingdom ranks fifth among favorite destinations with a 4.5% increase in bookings. A remarkable performance while historical competitors in the Mediterranean basin are suffering heavy losses, such as Tunisia, Portugal, and Turkey.

Regarding new reservations anticipating the summer season, the situation is far more severe for industry professionals. Travel agencies are recording a sharp 18% contraction in orders, reflecting a clear slowdown in overall demand. In this uncertain climate, Morocco is not entirely spared and shows a decline of 10.1%, but still manages to maintain a solid sixth place among preferred choices.
This slight Moroccan decline should moreover be put into perspective against the hemorrhaging suffered by its main regional rivals. As Air Journal points out, this contraction is considered moderate when observing the dramatic drops in Turkey and Egypt, which plummet by 54% and 34% respectively. The simultaneous collapse of long-haul destinations proves that the public is making a massive shift toward safe values and geographically closer options.
On Bladi.net : Morocco Becomes the Refuge for French Travelers
For July and August, travelers are maintaining a very cautious stance toward inflation and soaring airfares. Nevertheless, the average purchase lead time has shortened to 63 days, confirming a strong propensity for last-minute decisions. The Moroccan resilience observed in spring indicates that the country has the confidence capital needed to capture this wave of late bookings and succeed in its summer season.
