French Travelers Seek Refuge in Morocco

Geopolitical instability in the Middle East is significantly disrupting summer plans. The conflict is notably disrupting the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a rise in kerosene prices and airline tickets. Faced with these security and financial uncertainties, one in three French people is considering giving up their vacation due to this surge, according to a survey reported by BFMTV.

Many travelers now prefer to play it safe rather than maintain their reservations. This is the case for Virginie and her husband Karim, a 49-year-old civil servant. The couple decided on their own to cancel a week-long stay at a resort hotel in Egypt, originally scheduled for early April.

This decision was not made lightly by the couple. Worried about events occurring near their vacation destination, they ultimately chose safety. "We were unanimous that it was better not to take unnecessary risks," the couple explains, who were able to get a full refund for their accommodation.

The airline tickets, however, had to be rescheduled for a later date, resulting in an additional cost of around 300 euros. To use these flights, the couple ultimately opted for a trip to Morocco in October. This destination appears as an ideal alternative because it is closer to Europe and considered far more reassuring in this tense context. "We preferred not to travel too far," Virginie confides.
