Morocco’s Tourism Industry Faces Uncertainty Amid COVID-19 Variants and Travel Restrictions

The announcement by experts of a third wave of coronavirus contamination, especially with the spread of new variants of Covid-19 in different regions of Morocco, plunges the tourism sector into an unprecedented situation. Reopen or close, tourism professionals are prey to an uncertainty detrimental to their activities.
The summer should bring enough colors to give a little shine to the tourism sector, which has been battered since Morocco, as a protective measure, decided to opt for certain restrictive measures. With the appearance of the new strains of SARS-CoV-2, several countries have resumed tightening travel restrictions that had been eased in the meantime. This is the case in Morocco where, for a few weeks now, links with countries like Spain, France, Germany and Turkey have been suspended due to the significant influx of tourists these territories attract, the Ministry of Tourism said in a statement.
