Morocco Tourism Faces Backlash as Summer Prices Soar

Price speculation at the beginning of the summer season is raising concerns in Morocco. Many Internet users fear that this inflation will dampen the desire of Moroccans for domestic tourism and lead to a drop in the arrival of foreign tourists in the kingdom.
Hotel and tourist accommodation rates, as well as restaurant and cafe prices, and means of transport have seen a sharp increase as the summer season approaches in Morocco. These tourism service providers intend to take advantage of the influx of tourists and Moroccans from the diaspora who come to spend their summer vacations in the kingdom.
But this widespread rise in prices could negatively impact the attractiveness of the Moroccan destination, criticized Internet users on Thursday who widely shared on social networks the photo of a bill for 90 dirhams for the consumption of a bottle of water and a cup of coffee in a high-end cafe on the beach of Malabata in Tangier.
The publication of this bill has provoked the indignation of Internet users who denounced the price speculation at the beginning of the summer season, adding that this considerable increase in prices also harms domestic tourism, as it prevents middle-income Moroccan families from enjoying these summer vacations.
