Morocco's Tourism Boom: Record-Breaking 112.5 Billion Dirham Windfall as French Visitors Lead Surge

Morocco’s travel receipts reached a record level of 112.5 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2024, representing an increase of 4.6% compared to the previous year. According to the report of the Office of Foreign Exchange, France remains the main source market for these receipts.

With a total of 36.3 MMDH, receipts from France increased by 5.1% in one year. Spain ranks second with 17.1 MMDH (+4%), followed by Italy, which generated 8.2 MMDH in receipts, up 5.2%.

Parallel to this, travel expenses of Moroccans abroad also increased, reaching 29.4 MMDH (+9.6%). As a result, the travel surplus stands at 83.1 MMDH, recording a growth of 3%.

The analysis of the Office of Foreign Exchange specifies that personal travel is the main component of these financial flows. The surplus balance of this category increased by 2.7% to reach 79.4 MMDH. Business travel, on the other hand, generated a positive balance of 3.7 MMDH, up 9.8% compared to 2023.
