Morocco Tightens University Admissions with New Grade-Based Sorting System in 2020

Starting in 2020, access to faculties will become more difficult. The fields of study will be supervised by the faculty heads, using a sorting system that will take into account the student’s grades and assessments during their high school career.

Although registration for faculties will remain open to high school graduates, the choice of fields of study will be strictly controlled through a guidance system adapted to the aptitudes of each individual. The candidate’s performance during their high school career will determine the choice of field of study.

High school graduates and their families will have access to a platform that will allow them, based on the information provided, to have a choice of compatible fields of study. Still being finalized, this platform has been the subject of successful experiments in other countries.

Despite the difficulty of its application to all candidates, this sorting system will have the advantage of being decisive in the choice of fields of study and will allow teachers to better evaluate the knowledge and achievements of each individual. Still under study, this option will only be systematic if the capacity of faculties is called into question.

Furthermore, the supervisory ministry, in consultation with the group of university presidents, is working on the development of a program of new fields of study, which should enrich the educational offering after its validation in April 2020.
