Morocco Tightens Prison Visitation Rules Amid COVID-19 Surge

The restrictions imposed by the authorities to contain the spread of the coronavirus are reaching the prison system. The goal is to protect the prison population, which, even though it is isolated, is not immune to the coronavirus virus.
Inmates will be entitled to one visit per month, and from only one family member, the General Directorate of Penitentiary Administration and Reintegration (DGPAR) has announced.
The DGAPR had already limited visits to inmates to one every two weeks, as a preventive measure against the virus. But with the increasing cases of contamination, it has decided to review its decision.
The prison administration has already taken a series of preventive measures against the coronavirus, in order to best protect the inmates in Morocco, as well as all of its staff. Among these is the mandatory wearing of protective masks.
