Morocco Tightens COVID-19 Restrictions for Ramadan to Prevent Third Wave

Faced with the new cases of contamination detected in the last two weeks, the Moroccan government has strengthened the restrictive measures during the holy month of Ramadan. This is the ban on night travel nationwide from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., except for exceptional cases, with the maintenance of the various preventive measures announced previously.
For the physician and researcher in health policies and systems, Tayeb Hamdi, these measures will help the Kingdom avoid the third wave of Covid-19 which is currently dictating its law in many European countries. In a statement to MAP, the researcher emphasizes that this decision takes into account the surge in cases of contamination, especially in Casablanca, which alone accounts for 12% of positive cases nationwide, and 70% respectively of new cases and cases in intensive care. It seems obvious to take measures to deal with the spread of the coronavirus and its variants, which are more serious and more contagious.
According to Tayeb Hamdi, Moroccans must strictly respect the preventive measures and barrier gestures (wearing a mask, social distancing and frequent hand washing...), to strengthen the important gains recorded by Morocco in the fight against this pandemic and thus allow a gradual return to normal life.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the government specified that the decisions taken, far from being a punishment, are part of the strengthening of precautionary measures to preserve the health of citizens, so that the Ramadan period takes place under good conditions, without recording serious cases as was the case in 2020.
