Morocco Tightens Citizenship Requirements: Arabic or Amazigh Language Proficiency Now Mandatory

The House of Representatives has just adopted a bill on the Moroccan Nationality Code. This new law sets the conditions that any person wishing to obtain citizenship must meet.
From now on, "adequate knowledge of the Arabic and Amazigh languages, or one of them" is one of the naturalization conditions required by the Dahir. Presented by the Istiqlalian Group for Unity and Egalitarianism, this new law aims to "conform the provisions of Dahir no. 1.58.250 on the Moroccan Nationality Code, in particular its article 11, with the provisions of the Constitution which has made Amazigh an official language of the State alongside the Arabic language."
During the same session, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted a bill that sets the conditions and procedures for benefiting from the Family Solidarity Fund. According to this law, needy parents entitled to alimony will be able to benefit from financial advances allocated by the Family Solidarity Fund. Thus, parents who so wish have the right to apply to benefit from the fund with the president of the court of first instance.
