Morocco Terror Trial Postponed: Appeal Hearing for Imlil Tourist Murders Delayed

Convicted at first instance to heavy sentences, including three death sentences against the perpetrators of this crime described as "terrorist", the 24 criminals involved in the murder of two Scandinavian tourists were again before the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal of Salé on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. The appeal trial of these terrorists was postponed immediately after it opened.
Prosecuted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for "forming a criminal gang with a view to committing terrorist acts", the postponement of this appeal trial was requested by the lawyers in order to prepare their pleadings. It should be noted that at the beginning of the hearing, the Court ensured the identity of the 24 accused as well as the presence of the lawyers.
Among the public were two representatives of the Norwegian Embassy in Rabat. The trial opened on Wednesday, August 28 at 11 a.m. before the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal of Salé.
The lawyer for the victims’ families, Khalid Fettaoui, asked the court to compensate them, regretting the absence in Morocco of a fund dedicated to compensating victims in such cases. "We need to legislate and adopt a law establishing this fund," pleaded Khalid El Fataoui, lawyer for the Scandinavian victims’ families.
