Morocco's TelmidTICE Platform Sees Surge to 600,000 Daily Users for Distance Learning

Since March 16, when distance learning became a reality, the number of users of the TelmidTICE platform has exploded. 600,000 visits are recorded per day, according to the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Distance education is one of the measures taken by Morocco to successfully fight the spread of the new coronavirus (covid-19). According to an initial assessment by the ministry, 3,000 digitized resources have been produced since the start of the operation. This measure has taken into account all students, whether poor or rich, urban or rural.

In addition to the TelmidTICE platform, the ministry has also started "broadcasting recorded lessons on the Athaqafia TV channel, while giving priority to certifying levels". The Tamazight Channel joined the movement on March 23, with the broadcast of courses, just like the Laâyoune television station, as of March 24. The initiative "has made it possible to cover all levels of study, from the first year of primary school to the second year of the baccalaureate," reports the MAP.

In order to allow teachers to communicate directly with their students, the ministry, through the launch of the participatory service integrated into the Massar system called "Teams", gives teachers the opportunity to organize distance learning through virtual classrooms, the "number of which up to April 1 stands at 400,000 for public education institutions, and 30,000 classrooms for private education institutions for 100,000 active users".

As for higher education, universities are equipped with electronic platforms that allow professors to make courses and lessons available to students with a coverage rate between 80 and 100%.
