Morocco’s Tax Authority Resolves 91% of Disputes, Majority Within 30 Days

Out of the 107,481 dispute cases handled in 2018, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) says it has settled 91%, of which 70% in less than 30 days. The majority of the complaints received are related to local taxes, income tax, corporate tax and Value Added Tax (VAT).
The dispute cases recorded in 2019 were regularized before May, according to sources from the DGI. This speed must have benefited a large number of taxpayers, both individuals and legal entities. But some of them prefer to go to court.
2,447 of these cases were filed with the administrative courts, of which 1,195 were initiated by the DGI. In general, this institution has prevailed in the majority of the cases submitted to the judicial authorities.
1,590 judgments were handed down in favor of the tax authorities. Thus, it had to refund 1.56 billion dirhams out of the 2.5 billion in dispute. A figure that the DGI considers satisfactory, given the 62% maintenance rate recorded on the cases under regularization.
