Morocco Tax Authority Cracks Down on Post-Dated Checks, Ending Debt Staggering Practice

All guarantee checks deposited with the services of the General Treasury of the Kingdom (TGR) will be presented for collection. In case of non-payment, taxpayers will be granted five days to regularize their situation, failing which the check will be presented for protest.
A service note issued by the Directorate General of Taxes has put an end to the illegal practice of the "guarantee check", and has ordered all receivers of tax administrations to no longer accept post-dated checks, which allowed the staggering of the tax debt, reports L’Économiste.
"It is in no way permitted to keep without immediate payment to the Treasury, by the tax management, tax audit or collection services, the checks resulting from agreements concluded with the taxpayers granting the latter payment installments," the service note, relayed by the daily, points out.
In the event of the check being returned, the taxpayer has five days to regularize their situation, failing which the check will be presented for protest. Only the use of the bill of exchange remains possible for the time being, provided that it is presented for collection within five working days of its presentation.
