Morocco Suspends Utility Meter Readings, Offers Bill Payment Relief Amid Pandemic

In a context marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Moroccan government has taken several preventive measures in favor of the population and economic operators. But what about water and electricity bills?
According to the website rue20, the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water has decided to suspend meter reading and bill distribution operations until the lifting of the state of health emergency.
The measure, which aims to limit the movements of employees and customers, will allow the latter to benefit from payment facilities through deferral or installment of their bills.
Regarding the monitoring of water and electricity consumption, the Office has proposed to its subscribers to read the figures indicated on their meters and communicate them electronically, or through the Customer Relationship Center. Otherwise, an approximate value will be assigned by default.
