Morocco Suspends 3 Private Clinics from Insurance System Amid COVID-19 Overcharging Claims

After the statements of the Minister of Health, it is the turn of the National Health Insurance Agency (ANAM) to put a brake on the actions of certain private clinics in Morocco.
Speaking at the meeting of the permanent monitoring committee, held on Tuesday in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Health, the National Social Security Fund, the National Association of Private Clinics, and private sector physicians, the Director General, Khalid Lahlou, announced that 3 private clinics will be temporarily suspended from the third-party payer system. A mechanism put in place as part of the agreement concluded between the AMO management organizations and the medical providers.
The fraudulent practices and the excesses with respect to the National Reference Tariff (TNR), noted in the technical control reports, motivated the decision of ANAM, which moreover has summoned the 3 establishments to reimburse the difference to the insured who have been victims of overcharging.
Pending the agreement on a new scheme, allowing the revaluation of the TNR in terms of Covid-19 coverage, the Permanent Monitoring Committee has sought to denounce practices contrary to ethics, and to encourage all parties to actively intervene in the proper management of the health crisis.
