Morocco Suspends Prison Visits Amid COVID-19 Surge

Another consequence of the resurgence of Covid-19 infections, the prison administration has decided to suspend, indefinitely, family visits starting July 19.
In a statement, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced the suspension of family visits to inmates, reports the MAP, adding that this measure aims to preserve the health of inmates and their families and the need to avoid the spread of Covid-19 within detention facilities.
However, inmates will be able to receive food baskets from the second day of Eid al-Adha, the same source specifies.
For the record, family visits had resumed on May 25, after a first suspension on September 8, 2020 before resuming between March 1 and April 12, 2021 and another suspension during the month of Ramadan.
