Morocco Suspends Imam for Deviating from Official Sermon on Gaza Conflict

The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs has decided to suspend an imam for deviating from the official sermon at the Grand Mosque of Ksar Sghir, where he also teaches Sharia sciences.
This decision follows accusations that he did not respect the unified sermon issued by the ministry and addressed the events in Gaza in his sermon last Friday.
This is not the first time the ministry has taken such a measure. Last July, the ministry had already terminated the functions of another preacher in Tangier. The preacher had been accused of including personal comments in his sermon, which went against the ministry’s instructions to unify the doctrine.
In response to these incidents, the Supreme Scientific Council announced its intention to propose the Friday sermon to the preachers each Wednesday at 2 p.m. This sermon will be published on the ministry’s website and on its social media pages, as well as on the pages of the regional and local scientific councils.
The objective of this plan is to unify the sermon in order to "correct it and overcome the imbalances" that have occurred in the past.
