Morocco Suspends Electronic Invoicing Rollout After Merchant Protests

All measures relating to the implementation of electronic invoicing have just been suspended following an agreement signed yesterday by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) and the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII).
"This meeting took place in a framework of frankness, responsibility and clarity, and was characterized by a serious and constructive debate around the new tax measures relating to electronic invoicing and the requirement of the common company identifier (ICE) during commercial transactions and customs control measures," says the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The new regulatory text setting the terms of application will be done in consultation with the professional bodies concerned, it is specified.
Furthermore, "proximity merchants are not required to present their ICE as part of their transactions," the ministry reassures, which has been facing strikes and demonstrations by merchants across the country for several weeks.
