Morocco Suspends All Incoming Passenger Flights for Two Weeks Amid COVID-19 Concerns

All passenger flights to and from Morocco will be suspended from this Monday, November 29, 2021 for a period of two weeks, announced the National Airports Office (ONDA) on its Twitter account.

"The Moroccan authorities have decided to suspend all passenger flights to and from Morocco, for a period of two weeks, starting this Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11:59 pm," ONDA said on its official Twitter account.

The Interministerial Committee for Monitoring Covid-19, specified in a press release issued on Sunday that all direct passenger flights to Morocco are suspended for a period of two weeks. No mention was made of direct flights from Morocco, which raised some questions among travelers.

Thus, Morocco will close its airspace this Monday evening, one minute before midnight. This decision was made after the arrival and rapid spread of Omicron (B.1.1.529), the new variant of the Covid-19 virus, in Europe and Africa. According to the Interministerial Committee for Monitoring Covid-19, it aims to preserve the gains made by Morocco in the fight against the pandemic and to protect the health of citizens.

Special flights will be chartered for French travelers who were unable to leave Morocco before the entry into force on Sunday of the measure suspending flights, reassured Hélène Le Gal, the French ambassador to Morocco.
