Morocco Surpasses Global Peers in COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout, Aims for 25 Million

In terms of Covid-19 vaccination, Morocco has achieved in a few days a score that several other countries known for their progress in the field of Health have not yet reached, says Professor Abdellah Baddou in an interview. As of February 16, 2021, Morocco has already vaccinated 1,904,169 people.

In this interview given to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the specialist warns against relaxation in terms of barrier gestures and preventive measures and recalls that the objective set by Morocco is to vaccinate at least 25 million people in three months, in order to hope to reach collective immunity. To achieve this, the daily vaccination rate will need to be accelerated. The effective arrival of the expected vaccine batches could help achieve this goal.

Professor Abdellah Baddou said that since the start of the vaccination campaign, there has been an improvement in the epidemiological situation in Morocco. This is reflected in the decrease in new Covid-19 infections, cases in intensive care and deaths. But relaxation, according to the specialist, would be catastrophic. He calls for compliance with health and restrictive measures, especially after the appearance of new variants.

Two months after the launch of the global Covid-19 vaccination campaign, the professor points out that more than 100 million people have been vaccinated, especially in rich countries, to the detriment of poor countries. For him, this is why the World Health Organization (WHO) launched its Covax program to accelerate the development and manufacture of Covid-19 vaccines and ensure fair and equitable access worldwide.
