Morocco Summoned to Court in Imlil Tourist Murder Trial, Compensation Sought

The Moroccan State has been summoned to the Imlil trial at the request of the lawyer for the family of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, the Danish victim. Compensation is at stake.

After requesting to be a civil party in the trial of the murder of the two Scandinavian tourists in Imlil, demanding compensation from the criminals and calling for the death penalty for the murderers, the lawyer for the Danish victim, Me Khalid El Fataoui, has just requested the presence of the Moroccan State. A request that was accepted by the president Abdellatif El Amrani.

The lawyer stated: "We consider that this file is incomplete, and this because an important part is not present: it is the Moroccan State." Specifying that "the summons must be addressed in the name of the Head of Government".

La Vie Eco writes in this regard: "The lawyers for the civil party also consider that "the State has not failed in its duties" after the discovery of the double murder. The summoning of the State is intended to "take charge of the compensation that the accused will not be able to bear. Or, at least, to guarantee it."To support this request to summon the Moroccan State, the lawyers for the family of the Danish victim have highlighted two fundamental elements".

These are in fact Article 21 of the constitution, which stipulates that "everyone has the right to the security of their person, their loved ones and their property. The public authorities ensure the security of the populations and the national territory while respecting the fundamental freedoms and rights guaranteed to all", as well as the conventions ratified by Morocco concerning the fight against terrorism.
