Morocco Sues German Newspaper Over Pegasus Spyware Allegations

The Moroccan ambassador to Berlin, Zohour Alaoui, filed on behalf of the Kingdom, an injunction against the newspaper publishing company "Süddeutsche Zeitung GmbH", for "false allegations in the context of a report on the alleged use of the Pegasus spyware by the Kingdom of Morocco".
In a statement, the ambassador indicated that "Süddeutsche Zeitung GmbH had claimed in several reports that the Kingdom of Morocco had deployed the so-called Pegasus spyware and used it to spy on and wiretap the mobile phones of many politicians, journalists and other personalities".
Morocco does not recognize itself in these allegations and assures that it has never acquired the Pegasus spyware. This action in Germany comes after the defamation proceedings already initiated by Morocco in France against Amnesty International, Forbidden Stories, Le Monde, Mediapart and Radio France.
In this espionage case, Morocco has chosen to trust justice both internally and internationally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, had stressed. In addition to the legal actions launched in France and Germany, Morocco has called on a college of French experts whose mission is to prove the illegality of the allegations made against it.
